A Wine Tour of the Umpqua Valley

Umpqua Valley Wine

A Wine Tour of the Umpqua Valley Details

Welcome to the Land of Umpqua, where the Umpqua Valley Appellation blends New World wine with Old World traditions. Here, in Oregon’s oldest wine-growing region (a region and climate similar to the Burgundy region in France), you can easily enjoy other activities to enhance your experience. Who knows, your one-day trip may turn into two, or three, or however long you need…

Start the day just outside Sutherlin and take Highway 138 to one of Oregon’s historic covered bridges. The 1 Rochester Covered Bridge spans the Calapooya Creek.

Find your way back to Highway 9 (westbound) and start your wine country experience at 2 Henry Estate, on the banks of the Umpqua River. Henry Estate Winery is known for its Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris so don’t miss the opportunity to add these to your wine cellar.

Head southbound towards Roseburg and re-supply with a hearty lunch in the historic downtown district. After lunch, continue south towards Winston for an eclectic afternoon of wine and wildlife.

Head out to 3 Abacela Winery to sample more award winning wines (don’t miss the Tempranillo) and then head back east (towards Roseburg).

Stay in your car and drive in to view wildlife from Africa, Asia and the Americas in a natural setting at the 4 Wildlife Safari.

Next, head towards 5 Spangler Vineyards for the final wine tasting of the day. Taste a full flight of their wines but the Cabarnet Franc and Viognier may end up in your trunk.

End the evening by checking into a romantic bed and breakfast and ask the proprietor where you can enjoy one of your memories of the day, an Umpqua Valley wine.
